Spanish Tapas: Restaurant Adventure Saturday!

I'll be honest--Spanish food isn't exactly an adventure for us--we have it from time to time, but we are running out of cool restaurant ideas! I can't do Thai or Indian as an adventure because those cuisines are practically staples around here. Well, maybe we'll do those anyway just for fun and try to experiment with some foods we've never tried? Anyway, on to tapas!!

This meal was sort of a comedy of errors. For one thing, Spiderman joined us which is always exciting!

We decided to sit out on the pretty patio because the weather was so nice. But then the skies started to look menacing...
Photobucket
Then it started raining...
Photobucket
Even though everyone else on the patio started fleeing for the indoors, we perservered. The Macarena started playing which is Spiderman's favorite song--so he got up to dance!
Photobucket
Then the food started arriving. Of course with tapas, you gets lots of little plates of food. Our first one is my favorite--dates wrapped in bacon.
Photobucket
Then came Spanish cheese, quince and almond plate.
Photobucket
Pickle was enjoying everything--especially the bacon!
Photobucket
She brought her monkey along. But she calls it a bug.
Photobucket
More food--goat cheese in tomato sauce.

By now, the rain was coming down pretty hard and we had no choice but to move our show inside. Here is a portrait of my rain-splattered plate. I don't even remember what that food item was--some kind of Spanish-style bruschetta?--but it was good!
Photobucket
Oh, and there was pizza! This one had (more) bacon and caramelized onions.
Photobucket
This one was the absolute best! Squid with lemon.
Photobucket
Here's Gooser Squid-face
Photobucket
And a rare picture of me--again with the squid.
Photobucket
Oh, let's see...there was beef with horseradish...
Photobucket
And empanadas with lamb...
Photobucket
And lots of other things I didn't get a chance to take pics of. There was a LOT of food!! So much for my diet...

The kids started getting punchy...
Photobucket
And Gooser almost choked on some squid, but thankfully he was ok! (Although I screamed and scared the entire restaurant.)
Photobucket
All in all, it was a wacky meal! But fun!

Pickle says:

"This lunch was a freak show!!"

What a great time you guys had rain and all. I love the fact that Spiderman was saved from the squid.

It suddenly occurs to me that ANY restaurant you guys go to will be an adventure. What fun!

I love that Pickle calls her monkey a bug! When E was 2 we were discussing what the different characters on Backyardigans were, and I said Uniqua was a bug, and E disagreed. I said "What is she then?" E said, "You know, she's a cartoon."

Oh, I am laughing so hard...
Spiderman came to lunch and then did the macarena and then almost choked....what an adventure!!
I think you'll have a successful meal with Pickle each time if there is BACON involved!!
I totally think you should do the Indian and Thai restaurants...may not be adventure to you guys, but it would be an adventure for your readers!! Normal staple for my family is Chik fil a!!

You are such an awesome mom. I wish we could/would go to cool new restaurants. Spanish to us would be Mexican...tacos and burritos. yippie. lol :)

Lots of interesting looking dishes there! And great family pix, too. You are way more adventurous than I am when it comes to food.

And I love spiderman, and alos love other moms who let their kids express themselves that way.
