Southern Cookin'! Restarant Adventure Saturday

Howdy Everybody! It's been tricky lately to get out for our restaurant adventures--but today both Andy and Gooser had a half day at school so we were able to sneak out for a fun lunch together. We decided to try some Southern-style cooking and was it GOOD!

The first thing they put on the table were Johnny cakes with butter. They are like corn pancakes and crazy delicious!

Here's Pickle checking one out:
Though I think she preferred just eating the butter. Ew!
Oh, I forgot to mention that Batman was with us!
There's NO way this costume is going to make it to Halloween! He wears it every day!

There were lots of interesting things on the menu, so we decided to just order a bunch of stuff and share. OMG--fried green tomatoes! I think this might be my new addiction.
We sampled some fried plantains with rum sauce. Hello! Could anything be better?
Andy ate about three basketfuls (basketsful?--I don't know how to say that!) of the Johnny cakes! I think he has cow stomachs.
Next we tried some crawfish fritters. These were just a'ight for me--a little too fishy, but not bad.
Oh, I forgot to mention that this place was decorated in a really cool way--kind of like a bait shop! There were fish and fishing lures everywhere. I love old fishing lures.

And there was a neat window/mirror thing that I used to get some artsy pics:
OK back to the food. This was a Southern sampler of gumbo, jambalaya and red beans and rice. Really, really good--lots of sausage and chicken and seafood hiding in there!
And we got side orders of cheese grits and black-eyed peas. Pickle hit the grits pretty heavy!
Holy fried green tomatoes, Batman!!
Oh and I just had to try this drink: a fresh peach and pineapple colada. Wheeeeee!
Pickle says:
I love me some Southern cookin'!! Come for the food..

...stay for the fiddlin' raccoon!

Your kids are a hoot! The old fishing rods made me think you might want to try my Thingamajig challenge because I love to walk down memory lane with others. Here is the challenge: I challenge you to go in to your drawers, closets, cabinets right now and find something that would go with my post on Thingamajig - link back to me to show everyone what we are doing - leave a comment with your post linked for others to go view. I would love to stroll down memory lane with you!

What a cool restaurant...it seems to have all types of southern food. I was thinking you'd only have the fried green tomatoes, grits, collard greens, etc. But there was Cajun food?! Bonus in my book!!

Oh those tomatoes look to die for! And Pickle and her butter is so hilarious!

The raccoon...scary huh?

Your commentary is spot on!!!! How do you find these places anyway??? I love all the pics...but I do especially like the cool ones with the window mirrors.

I'm jealous of everything Pickle eats. Z is crying right now because I cannot find the 1 thing he wants....although I've already fixed the 2 things he SAID he wanted. UGGGH!!!

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by last night via Ann's GNO. Cool blog (and loving Pickle, what a cutie... Batman looks cute too but can't really see him!). That meal looked amazing. We've been living in the South for 2 years now and I've yet to have a Southern meal that good.
