How Cool Is This?

A couple of months ago I got the coolest new thing--it's called an Ecosphere. It's a sealed glass globe and inside is water, little shrimp, gravel, some plants and some stuff that looks like coral. So all of these things are living in there--but it's completely sealed! You don't do anything to it! So, like, the little shrimp are swimming around in there and the little plants are thriving and you just gaze at it--not feeding, no cleaning.

Here are some pics of mine:

I guess it's kind of hard to see, but trust me--these are incredible! If you want to check out the website click here. It says that the Ecosphere is "the world's first totally enclosed ecosystem - a complete, self-contained and self-sustaining miniature world encased in glass. "

The thing that really struck me, other than the pure amazingness of it, is that they are like little works of art. It's like living art!

So this year--these are going to be my Christmas and Hanukkah presents to my friends and family! So if my friends or family are reading this--sorry to spoil the surprise--but you are getting this! I figure it's something totally different, a work of art and kind of like a pet--but you don't have to do anything to take care of it. Perfect!!

Here's another pic from their site--they come in different sizes and shapes. Am I crazy or is this the coolest thing ever??

They look great, like the sea monkeys we use to have as kids, but better.

Those are cool... I had to go check out the website 'cause I was curious to know how long they lived!

You're right... these would make very unique gifts!

I have been wanting one of these forever. But then I thought surely it will die and look awful and then I would have a paid bunch of money for some dead shrimp and stuff in a glass egg. But now I'm having second thoughts.
