My Weird Shoes

My friend, Cathy, from Noble Pig (one of my favorite blogs!) wrote a funny post the other day about these shoes:
They are sort of kooky Nikes with this "cloven hoof" type design. She wrote about how she ran into someone wearing them and she thought they were bizarre (which they are!).

So the post was totally fun, talking about these crazy shoes and wondering what other people thought of them. She got like over 100 comments and I was amazed at how many people totally hated these shoes! I mean really hated! There was venom dripping from those comments.

OK--I have these shoes. I've had them for a few years and I don't wear them all that often because I don't find them too comfortable, but I do think they're kind of cool and I wear them when I'm in a kooky mood.

So here's the thing--it doesn't bother me that so many people hate the shoes--I'll go right on wearing them as I did before--but it does surprise me! Stuff like "ghastly" "ugly" "fugly" "yuck" "strange" "just wrong" "gross" "dreadful" "hideous" "scary" and stuff like that!

So I mean, that's cool, people don't like them--but what really surprised me was stuff like "it's an insult to woman everywhere" "why would any self respecting woman wear these?" and my favorite--"Why anyone would degrade themselves wearing the Nike's... is beyond my scope of intelligence"

Wow! This was really an eye-opener for me! I had no idea I was causing such a scandal when I wore my crazy Nikes. I mean, maybe people aren't even noticing the eyeball ring and the pink hair--my shoes are the real shocker!

So I just have to ask my blog friends--and you can be totally honest with me--are these shoes really that weird and are they degrading? Because, honestly, I've worn way weirder shoes than these!

They do get a thumbs up from Pickle--we all know she's strange though!

I actually like the look of them... not sure I understand the toe thing though... that doesnt look comfortable... but I didnt even really notice that until you pointed it out. I love the crazy plaids & the strap on them though. Have you seen the Neon Hi-top Reebok's from the 80's back in style? Now, those are ugly! These - I think they're cute!

I do like the colors and patterns of both shoes... but I don't care for the toe thingy. But that's just me and my little ol' opinion!

They are soooo much cuter in pink!

Jennifer, I have the same passionate pet hate for high heels, especially those that look like house bricks. "Cloven hooves" don't worry me one bit.

Not that bad except for the toe thing. What is the purpose behind that?

They are kooky, but I'm not sure I would ever use the word "degrading" for them...degrading in what way?

They look too uncomfortable to me, but that would be the reason I wouldn't get them!

Oh Jen, now I am really cracking up. I think the degrading comment stemmed from the fact that the shoes resemble a camel toe and therefore why would any woman wear them.

I tell you, I now had too much comic relief with it all! Thanks for the follow-up post and you are one brave woman for posting this after all that! Love it!

Sorry for the aside, but I can't believe how much Pickle looks like Gooser in that picture- with her hair over half her face! Wow! So cute!!! :)

OK, since you asked for honesty, I hate them. I love weird, but for some reason the cloven toe thing creeps me out.

But, I wouldn't stop wearing them if I liked them.

Honestly, I think that are kinda cute but I really don't get the split toe thing. Whats that all about?

I love pink so I love the color and print on the shoes. The toe thing is strange looking and appears to be "rough on the toes". Is there a reason Nike did the toes like that? Just curious! But I really like the look of the shoe (just without the hoof toe thing)

I think maybe some people need to get a life. If you can get yourself that worked up over a pair of shoes, I doubt the shoes are the real problem...

I think they're fine shoes, but my Croc collection doesn't allow room for Nikes!

I think they are kind of interesting looking, but I hate things between my toes so they wouldn't be for me.

I am not one for cloven hoof shoes but if Sarah Jessica Parker wears them I am sure you can too!! By the way I love the eye ring and the pink hair....

I think they're cute! Are they being nasty and comparing them to 'camel toes' or something? Weird!

Hi ya, Jenny! Actually you make those shoes look pretty.
Do you remember those REALLY ugly shoes I brought you once? The black and red platform shoes, with a buckle?

Jennifer said...

OMG I remember those Anne! They were called "Hooky" shoes!! I liked them!

I think they are cute, the toe thing is different. But I am all for different, I wore a mohawk for 3 months so maybe my opinion is a bit out there. Either way I would wear them.

Some people just need to rag on something, and I am guessing the shoe blog was it. Yikes. Just shoes people. Just shoes.

I don't really care for the black & green ones, but I really DO like the pink ones! I can't believe they sparked so much controversy!
