Dining In The Dark?

I have been planning the details of our upcoming trip to California, including finding fun/cool restaurants and I came across this little gem--there is a restaurant in Los Angeles where you eat entirely in the dark!! I guess you start out in a lighted lobby area where you go over the menu and order, then you are escorted into the pitch black restaurant and served a three-course meal by blind or vision-impaired waitstaff who are specially trained to navigate around in the darkness. They also say "Special security measures are taken to make your experience both safe and enjoyable."

Apparently, the lack of sight really enhances your other senses making it a really unusual and "sensual" experience.

OMG Can you imagine how freaky that dinner would be?? I want to do it SO badly!! Unfortunately, something tells me Pickle would not be up for this dining adventure (though I'm sure my older kids would be) so it will have to wait for another trip.

Have any of you heard of this or tried it? Would you want to?

Speaking of freaky things, I can;t get enough of this song and video from Flight of the Conchords: "I Told You I Was Freaky." These guys are so crazy and this song is hilarious!!

Oh, and--Happy St. Patrick's Day! I'll be posting tomorrow our wearin' o' the green and our Irish feast!

HA! Where did you find this song?! ROTFL.

Happy St. Patrick's day! Have they dyed the river green yet? Come to think of it, that's pretty freaky too.

This kind of restaurant was featured in an episode of CSI. Of course someone got killed in the dark during dinner.

That't the only time I've heard of it!

Love the song.

The restaurant sounds totally cool but the whole time I was reading it, I was thinking "Wow! Would Pickle do that?" Then you answered my question. lol. I know Brenley wouldn't go for it! I think it would be tons of fun! I'd like to go too...just without the kids!! My only fear would be...what am I REALLY eating? :)

Jennifer, And this is why I LOVE your blog. First, I love the idea of the dinner but if we took the girls - we would have to listen to this repeatedly, "Why are the lights out?" But it does sound fun!

And lastly, where in the world did you find the song? It is freaky but I love the video. I will have to listen later when Franklin is not in the background!

I need to see what I am eating. I think I would freak. Sounds kinda romantic. Maybe hubby and I would go sans kids and play footsies under the table. Hmmmm.

Jen I think rock of love had an old episode a few seasons back where they ate at a place like that on a date :)

I think they showed that restraunt in Rock of Love 2 with Bret Michaels. It was suppose to be all kinky with him eating dinner in the dark with 2 girls. He wasn't sure which one was touching him though, and the girls didn't know what the other one had been doing to him while she had been eating...ewww~!
I bet you were thinking a whole different route though huh? Family experience? IDK. I just watch WAaaay to much reality T.V. LOL!

I think it would be really wierd at first, but your other senses probably overcompensate a few minutes into dinner. I'm thinking, no, I don't want to eat in the dark!

Jen-
Leave Pickle with me, I will tend her while you enjoy your meal.

They went there on Hell's Kitchen. You need to see the rereuns. I'm pretty sure it was this season or last.

I saw an episode of CSI, where a guy was murdered in one of those restaurants...sorry. I think it would be weird not being able to see what you are eating.

I saw this type of restaurant on Hell's Kitchen where Chef Ramsey took the winning team - it sounded fascinating
Happy St Pat's Day!

I've never heard of a restaurant like that before. But... I would worry I'd poke my eye out with the fork or spill the drink or something would happen. I'd need to wear a plastic bag over my cloths. LOL.

I saw one of those restaurants on CSI or something, I didn't think they existed for real. I'm a wee bit afeard of the dark, so I don't think that would be for me. Not to mention that I am a crazy picky eater, so not being able to see my food? No way, jose.

OMGooosh!!! I love that song and video. It's sooo cool. Never heard of it before but I loved it instantly.

And eating dinner in the dark is not something I think I would want to do. I hate haunted houses and stuff. So I don't think I could do it.I'm a big woos when it comes to really scary movies like the grudge an so on.

Happy St. Patty's Day

I saw a CSI episode about this kind of restaurant one time. I guess that is why they talk about special security measures...cuz in that episode, someone was murdered in the dark and nobody knew it!

I would wind up covered in food, I am sure...

That does seem kind of weird. Heck! I would try most anything once:-)

I don't think I could do that dining experience...I'm scared of the total darkness! When I was little I was scared of the dark, period. Now, I like the dark, but not complete blackness where you can't see your hand in front of your face. =O

I don't know if I could eat in the dark! I'd want to see my food, to know what I was eating!

I actually saw this on an episode of Nip/Tuck not too long ago. I couldn't imagine eating in total darkness but would be up for trying it sometime.
