Sledding!

We're back! We had a very nice long weekend getaway--although it went too fast.

As usual, is was cold (this is a window in our house).

And snowing non-stop--no swimming this weekend! Poor swimming pool...
But we decided to make the best of it and take the kids sledding. We had the sleds, but had forgotten to bring all the snow gear, so I headed off to Wal-Mart and many $$$s later had enough snow pants, boots and gloves to keep the five kids snow-proof.

We headed off to some nearby dunes to let the sled fest begin.

Point blank: I'm not fond of sledding! I'm a city girl and I don't like climbing "mountains" covered in snow. I fell like five times and *almost* started crying, plus I lost my lens cap (and my dignity) during a particularly bad spill--but it's all for the kids, right!?

And they loved it! Here's Pickle AKA The Snowbunny.
Here's Gooser:
I really like these outdoorsy pics of Andy:
Teddy:

Action shot of Patrick!
And action shot of Don and Pickle...
Also, a non-action shot!
Oops, here's yet another one of Andy.
Just one more of Pickle...
Pretty sky/tree pic:

When we were done and I managed to fall/roll/slide back down the hill to the car, we went to a local winery for lunch--much more my speed! The kids we're all starving after all that fresh air and Don and I managed to get a quick wine tasting in. Here are the kids at the restaurant--Pickle refused to cooperate.

I don't know if you can tell in this pic, but Gooser's snowpants are hot pink! It was the only pair at Wal-Mart that was even remotely his size--he didn't seem to mind though!

Today we drove back in a blizzard (Of course! Becacuse it never stops snowing!) and I'm frazzled and exhausted. I think a nice hot bath is in order...

Also, I'm SO excited about the inauguration!!! Is anyone doing anything special to celebrate?

I too am a city girl. No sledding for me. My boys would love it. Can I send them with you next time you go? LOL!

I puffy hate sledding!

I tried it at our house. David just gave the kids a shove from the top of the hill and they squealed as they flew down.

Sure, I'll try it. But with me he started way way back further and ran like a madman pushing a corpse off a cliff (no, I really don't know anyone that has every pushed a corpse off a cliff!) and he hadn't even let go of my shoulders and I started screaming and as soon as I let out my first squeal I started peeing.

Yup, apparently when you are fifty and if you open your mouth to wide you can start peeing, too. It was damn cold. I was sopping wet to my knees. My thighs were chapped by the time I got back up the hill.

You see, Ms. Fun I would never write stuff like this about me over at my blog but I don't mind talking about this over at other places! Thanks!

Besides I get enough hits from people looking for Candid Pee, now maybe you can get some too!

Love you, Carrie

That looks like tons of fun. All those rosy cheeks and smiles! (And the snow pants look red in the picture.) :)

LOL Carrie! If I had actually gone on a sled I'm sure I would have peed too! You were brave to try--I basically crawled down the hill on my hands and knees.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that puffy hates sledding!

There's a swimming pool under all that snow????

And that picture of Pickles face while coming down the hill is great. With her eyes covered up, but that smile on her lips.. too cute!

All your kids are just the cutest!

Wow - those are great pictures. That freaked me out to see the pool covered in snow. My parents have a pool and I just can't picture it where you don't see the water. Too wild! Looks like such fun and you were a good sport to walk through the snowy hills and take pictures!

See now you made snow look fun, I am not disliking it in your pictures.

Cold with snow is better than cold without....although I guess you've had your share lately. Those pics are great! Glad your trip was better than that other one you posted about where Pickle was sick.

Great pics!

I have not been sledding since I was a kid... prolly not since I was in 3rd or 4th grade!

Carrie's comment is the BEST! She cracks me up!

I loved sledding when I was a kid, but I haven't been in years and years. When Sophie gets just a weensy bit bigger, which probably means next year since we've had almost no snow around here, I'll take her out.

We spent the whole morning watching the inauguration on TV. It was quite a celebration. We live just 30 minutes from DC, but there was no chance we were making the trip. Me and crowds, not so much.
